The story
Sculpture for everyday life
When uncompromising art meets traditional master craftsmanship, more than a piece of furniture emerges. The Quantum 21 was born from the vision of artist and designer Benno Simma – and completed by the craftsmanship of Werkstätten Harald Laimer.
Benno Simma approaches furniture design not from pure utility, but with the eye of an artist. The chair is designed according to the Rosenheim principle. His design breaks with conventional forms and turns the classic chair into a functional sculpture: every line and every curve was carefully studied so that the chair looks new from every perspective in the room – a quiet yet powerful presence.
In our workshop, this design is brought to life with the same devotion. We treat wood as a living material: every joint and every edge is worked with precision, and the surface feels the way it looks – warm, organic, refined. Built to last for generations and to grow more beautiful with a natural patina.
The design idea
A weave made of wood
The Quantum 21 consists of 21 parts of birch plywood. Nothing is bent: every sweeping line is already milled into the parts, held in their precise cut. When the parts are slotted together, the slats form an open grid – seat and backrest become one continuous movement, without a break, without a seam.
The open weave makes the chair light, airy and surprisingly comfortable. The visible layered edges of the wood trace fine lines through the grid and show how the chair is made: part by part, milled and assembled by hand.
The Quantum 21 thus unites what our workshop stands for: traditional South Tyrolean craftsmanship and a design language that looks forward.
